Call the world and don't break the bank doing it...in fact, it's free!
Two kids playing with cans, tie a string between the two and carry a conversation from tree house to tree house. Remember those days?
It was a simple life. Then a guy came along and made it possible to call from house to house. Remember:
"Can I get No. 9, operator?"
"Connecting." snort. snort.
"Uh, operator?"
"Yes." snort.
"That was a wrong number. That was No. 8."
"Sorry, connecting." snort. snort.
Imagine how hard it would have been to have an automated answering machine when we were calling on those old phones.
But, finally the phone lines started spreading out across the nation. It was possible to make a call from one town to another. Then, from one state to another state. But then, we had to do even more.
Imagine trying to run string across the ocean. A can on each side, the first time you ever heard a person's voice from a distance. You can't see them, but you can hear their voice.
